Kare-Kare Beach

A black sand beach unique to Auckland and is calm and serene as the crowd on most days is much lower here.

So, if you are one of those peace lovers and want to spend some time here and like black sand beaches, which some do not like, then the Kare Kare beach is a good option.

The beach was also featured in a few movies like The Piano, Memory, and Desire. To reach this beach, there is a small walk including crossing a small stream and get wet.

The beach is a quiet and fantastic way to relax. One can also see many surfers here. Avoid swimming as it can be dangerous.

Also, there is one waterfall some 0.5Km across the treks.

Parking is available right at the entrance point and it does not take long to come back. The boardwalk is pretty gorgeous and sees some of the most spectacular views right in front of your eyes.

The overall hike is family and dog-friendly. Just 30 minutes are needed for walking up and down. Though the path becomes quite steep at a certain point since the path is properly paved, it doesn’t cause any problem.

Café is there at down steps to enjoy some beverages or snacks.
